TRIBUTE Presents BASIC SOUL UNIT (DEBUT EUROPEAN LIVE SHOW) + ALEX COULTON
La Cheetah Club
73 Queen Street, Glasgow
Friday, 9 March 2012
23:00 until 03:00
March sees us welcome Toronto-based producer, Basic Soul Unit. We’re extremely honoured to be hosting this debut European live performance from an artist who has turned many a head since emerging in 2003. Stuart Li has made a convincing case to be regarded as one of the true modern torchbearers of the classic house and techno sounds.
Releasing on a number of esteemed labels including Ostgut Ton, Creme Organization and Mathematics Recordings, Li has proven to be a remarkably talented and versatile producer. Though consistently raw in the manner of much of his Detroit and Chicago antecedents, Basic Soul Unit’s production technique varies across different releases. At times his music is jacking and forceful. Sometimes it’s sparkling and effervescent, while often the style is deep and brooding, with acid-inflected undertones that threaten to bubble to the surface as his tracks evolve. Whatever form it takes, the Hong Kong-born artist’s output is always captivating and we expect this live set will be rather special, to say the least.
Our second guest is definitely one you will want to keep track of over the next few years. Manchester’s Alex Coulton is already well-known to the Tribute team after his impressive debut, 2011’s Representations EP, became the first record to be released through Glasgow’s up and coming All Caps label. Coulton will perform a DJ set showcasing his extensive knowledge of Techno, from minimalist dub-infused rhythms to straight up dancefloor-focused material.
Tribute resident, Matt All Caps, will be in charge of the warm up so get down early for this one.
