Cafe Marlayne - top of Leith Walk.
Two cources for £11.95.
I had toasted goats cheese on a warm beetroot and endive salad followed by pan fried fillet of sea breem served with new potatoes and some pretentious veg.
She had the goats cheese followed by a smoked salmon product.
Couple of glasses of wine.
Pretty good for £35.
Over all 7.5/10

Mulberry St tonight. The Bungo was fully booked so an alternative was required.
Superb wee place. 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert, a bottle of wine, 1 brandy, 1 pint of peroni
£55
The food was superb too and for that price it's even better.

It's not even that The Bungo is so busy, the staff are so incompetent. Was in there a few days ago and waited over 15 minutes, and they hadn't brought over our drinks or menus. Left and went over the street to Cookie, I ordered a fillet of sea bream with muscle broth. Excellent service and outstanding food!

I had wild mushroom and leek risotto It's a shame about Bungo, as it the same folk that run Left Bank and the service/food there has always been brilliant - hopefully they'll sort themselves out soon.

Nachos last night. New mexican that's opened in Shawlands.
Food was excellent. Only two wee gripes: the name is shite and makes it sound like a chain restaurant and the menus were big A3 laminated efforts that were very fast food-esque. Minor gripes though as the food really was top notch. Also had one of the nicest wines I've had in a while, a Chilean Malbec.
(FAO Jameshay: she had stuff chillies to start, then a vegetarian burrito)

The Bungo is shite.
Farcical waiting staff and getting seated was a real chore. When you arrive there's no one to seat you and the staff seem to ignore folk as they come in so people are left standing. We went to the bar and were told it would be about a half hour wait for a table. Not really a problem so we had a drink while we waited, except no one told the restaurant staff we were waiting for a table.
Eventually got seated and we were told one of the fryers wasn't working so anything cooked out of that would be a bit slower. Fair enough that they told us up front, but from sitting down it took them 20 minutes to take our order, and the starters took 50 minutes to arrive.
The menu looks good but the food was very average. Red onion fritters were dry and cold and the plates were grubby. My burger was actually very good but the missus had a veggie burger made from chickpeas and vegetarian haggis that was absolutely rotten. It had fallen to pieces and was unable to be eaten as a burger. Someone had fish and chips which looked ok and the other three had curries, two of which were rank.
Very disappointing and I wouldn't go back any time soon unless I hear some very good reports. The place was also freezing. Either they had the air-con up full or a window open somewhere. The music was fucking bizarre and at one point they were playing the Hokey Cokey
4/10
